IV Therapy: New Fad or Medically Supported Therapy?

IV Therapy | Arizona Natural Health CenterYou may have seen the recent increase in Hollywood’s elite receiving IV therapy, but is it just a fad?

IV nutrients have been used since the 1960’s for fighting colds and flus, reducing fatigue, and improving the nutritional status of patients. While putting nutrients through an IV might seem extreme at first, then benefits are plentiful! And you will likely feel the changes right away. In fact, a recent study looked at using IV Vitamin C for reducing fatigue, and participants noticed results within 2 hours of administration. Most oral supplements do not work that fast!

Why would you use IV Nutrients?

  • Reduce Fatigue
  • Fight or prevent infection
  • Support cancer treatment
  • Help with sports/athletic training or recovery

If you are ready to try this trend, make sure you sit down with a doctor who is experienced in IV therapy and has some specialty training. Any time you insert a needle, catheter, or fluids into the blood stream there can be a risk of infection, phlebitis, and other complications. You will want to have some blood work and a urinalysis done by your physician before your first treatment.

If you are going for your first IV therapy, make sure you drink lots of water for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. This will improve your IV experience. Make sure you eat regular meals before your treatment, and you might also want to pack some snacks, as some IV nutrients can reduce your blood sugar and cause hypoglycemia.
